Biography

The all-female UK heavy metal band had its origins in Painted Lady, founded by teenagers Enid Williams (bass/vocals) and Kim McAuliffe (13 April 1959; guitar/vocals). The remaining members of Painted Lady went on to form Tour De Force. After Kelly Johnson (b. 20 June 1958, d. 15 July 2007; guitar/vocals) and Denise Dufort (drums) had joined in 1978 the name became Girlschool and the independently produced single, ‘Take It All Away’, for City Records, led to a tour with Motörhead....
