This LP contains Cookes debut album, the highly acclaimed Songs by Sam Cooke originally issued by the Keen label in 1957. This fantastic record boasts some of his finest songs, with accompaniment by The Bumps Blackwell Orchestra (featuring fabulous musicians such as guitarists Cliff White and Ren Hall, bass player Ted Brinson, and drummers Earl Palmer and Chris Blackwell). Cookes material for the Keen label recorded from 1957 (after seven years as lead tenor in the gospel group The Soul Stirrers) to 1960 (the year he signed with RCA Victor) was just as fruitful as any other phase of his short career. In addition to the original album, this Vinyl Lovers collectors LP includes 3 bonus tracks from the same sessions: All of My Life, You Were Made for Me, and Stealing Kisses. Theres no better proof of Sam Cookes genius than these soulful, passionate, stylish and exuberant recordings.
