The wild chase is so suspenseful and emotionally resonant, partly because of how well-developed the bond between Mija and her CGI pal is already; it’s the kind of exhilarating magic that’s certainly reminiscent of Mr. Spielberg.

[This is] he latest jaw-dropping piece of exuberant, uncategorizable dystopian satire from Bong Joon Ho....Bong is a showman in the grand tradition, and when you’re in a showman’s hands, you follow.

The title character of the new film from South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon Ho is a marvel of contemporary technical wizardry and old-fashioned cuddliness, a CG fantasy mix of pig, puppy and hippo that makes for a genuinely lovable creature.

3.5 stars out of 4 -- OKJA is the heartwarming tale of a girl and her giant mutant pig, brought to life through a mix of digital effects and puppetry that makes a nonexistent beast seem as real as E.T. or King Kong.

Downright charming at times....The CG is convincing enough to suspend disbelief.

4 stars out of 5 -- OKJA is a brilliant film....It’s a Spielbergian adventure, a magical fantasy, a dystopian sci-fi, an arthouse morality play, a rousing paean to animal rights -- all housed in the simple story of a pig born in a test tube, and the ensuing battle over her fate.
