I Love Rock & Roll (10-CD Set)

This set from Collectables is similar to many other collections out there...yet, in its own charming way, different. First, the package, which is about 5 3/4 " wide by 10" tall, opens like a book. There are two sections of five discs each. Each section of discs also opens like a book, easily opening left to right and lying flat; making it easy to see what is on each disc as they lay exposed in clear plastic holders. On the inside left cover there is attached a colorful three page listing of the contents, very clearly listing each disc number with song title and artist. The back cover of the case also lists all 100 tunes and artists. All in all it is a well-done design in such a low-priced collection - easy to use, easy to store. As with many budget collections, don't expect a historical documentation of the music.

I have a pretty good, varied and fairly complete collection of 60's and 70's music, and I will admit to already having 60 of the 100 tracks on this set. The 40 tunes I didn't have were mostly from the 50's and very early, (pre-Beatles) 60's (mostly Doo-Wop). However, for the sale price over a holiday weekend of $16.57, I couldn't refuse it at $1.60 per disc! You can't go wrong at the current sale price either.

Now to the music: You can see for yourself the songs included in this set. I like the idea that I can pop one of the 10-song discs in my player and listen to a range of music from say, Ike & Tina to The Turtles to Bobby Marchan and back to The Paradons. As the package states, this contains original songs and artists...no cheesy remakes here. The sound is clean and clear.

All in all, whether you are a beginning collector, or just trying to fill in your collection as I did, this is a great set to pick up. It will certainly satisfy your listening and collecting habit!
