Rating: 4/5 -- Murphy playing himself is an oddity in a film of this type, but it seems to work.

Fair Acting by a Great WW-II Hero Movie Lover: from Sunny Isles Beach, FL US -- November, 28, 2005

Audie Murphy was one of those rare "lucky birds"... someone who survived a war to live to wear his Medal of Honor. Murphy is one of the most celebrated and decorated heroes in U.S. Army history. He hated war, but fought hard and constantly put his life on the line to take care of his buddies. What better figure to make into a post-WW-II movie star? Unfortunately, Murphy never became an accomplished actor, but the movies of his exploits are as real as he could make them... no phony silver-screen acting heroism here! To Hell and Back is excellent popcorn fare. Murphy IS a true American hero.
