Description by OLDIES.com:
An ode to the pop culture and sci-fi mania of the '60s and '70s, cheese-cinema auteur Jacques Boyreau's Candy Von Dewd is a strong contender for the underground cult status of his obscure previous efforts (Hippy Porn, Planet Manson). With a wild vision of the 23rd Century that's both nostalgic and brilliantly twisted, Candy Von Dewd hurtles across the movie screen with the unrelenting energy of comet.
It's a modern-day Barbarella filmed in an 8th Avenue porn shop. With lovely ladies running amok in leather boots and rubber erotic-wear, fantastic plotting that borders on the surreal and a budget that wouldn't pay for a year in film school, Candy Von Dewd is a mind-altering experience best seen when the mind is already altered.
Spaced-out special effects highlight this bizarre cinematic experience that takes the B-picture to a place where no rational man has gone before! Candy Von Dewd enjoyed a limited theatrical run, playing double-bills with such sci-fi opuses as Zardoz, one of many films from which elements are borrowed and happily distorted. Contains sexual situations.

Jacques Boyreau's CANDY VON DEWD is a thrilling, bizarre, visually spectacular and always-surprising postmodernist romp through the retro space opera genre. It is also a major achievement in the relatively new art of digital video effects. It is unclear what the budget for the film was, but it surely falls under the micro-budget category and is not comparable, budget-wise, to Hollywood product. Thus, the opulent, hallucinatory and vibrant look of the film is quite shocking. CANDY VON DEWD creates a claustrophobic yet aesthetically expansive universe which is all the more impressive as, again, the film was likely made at a home-movie budget. The thin plotline, itself an amalgam of B-movie synopses of yore such as JOURNEY TO THE SEVENTH PLANET, MARS NEEDS WOMEN and SOLARIS, involves a team of astronauts delving deep into space to find interplanetary breeders for their dying race. As they trip further into the black void of space, they encounter sexy Amazon women who want to mate with them, indeed, but to death! This clich?d narrative conceit is dealt with cleverly and with some shocking new twists. The sexy space women, who are all stone-cold gorgeous and share a certain sultry ?goth? look, are primarily dressed in erotically-charged leather and plastic uniforms which aptly show off their ample charms. In addition, the scenes of the space women are shot from various arty angles, and edited spastically, giving these sequences a true feeling of sexual fantasy gone amok. Additionally, almost every scene in CANDY is somehow augmented or enhanced by digital f/x, giving the final product an unearthly look somewhere between a music video and a very arty television commercial. And unlike the aforementioned formats, the f/x really work well here, lending a compelling hallucinatory quality to the film. There is also some exquisite miniatures work, with the groovy ?lightship? which carries our intrepid travelers. Perhaps ?miniatures? isn?t the right word, for it is difficult to tell if these outer-space scenes were indeed composited from miniatures and highly modified through digital f/x work, or perhaps the entire scene, including the spaceship design, was computer-generated. Either way, these scenes, with the spaceship flying through the ether while emitting waves of plasma energy, are breathtaking. Another breathtaking scene involved the astronauts first arriving on the planet of sexy chicks. It would appear that the astronauts walk in formation on the dunes of a massive desert, with queer pulsating lights moving about the heavens, but this scene, too, might be completely created on desktop. It is an astounding scene regardless of its source. An electronic music score, rock-based and pulsating, provides the perfect audial counterpoint to the dazzling visual look. By combining a standard B-movie melodrama with an ultra-sexy ambience and an absolutely inimitable visual look makes CANDY VON DEWD a unique, avowedly postmodern micro-budget feature.
I get a certain feeling from cheap SciFi movies that march to a different drummer. I mean the 'rules' they follow are based on 2 things: The Imagination and Lack of Money (not necessarily in that order). CANDY VON DEWD is a prime example. In fact it's the best example of Shoestring SciFi I've seen in awhile. Imagine a great Star Trek episode directed by Bob Chin (of Johnny Wadd fame). Or imagine if Ed Wood worked in color. Speaking of color, if you enjoy it, this movie is excessively 'aglow.' The fx are slick and they zap you right when key plotpoints occur. The acting is totally bizarre. Makes you wonder what these people do for a living. The story is classic - Astronauts must save Earth by 'hooking up' with alien wombs. CVD manages to be a lot of things: serious, stupid, fun, silly, but mostly (and this seems to be its fail-safe) sexy, sexy, sexy.
