Description by OLDIES.com:
The legendary Stanley Turrentine is showcased in his first-ever DVD concert. For more than thirty years, Turrentine's warm masculine tenor sax sound has been heard on his distinctive recordings, as well as on those of Ray Charles, Shirley Scott, Max Roach and Jimmy Smith. One of the first jazz "crossover" artists, Turrentine has been a best-seller for decades, playing everything from pop to funk. Now, in this intimate concert taped at New York's Village Gate, Stanley & Co. swing on such standards as Rodgers & Hart's "My Romance," Milton Nascimento's "Salt Song" and Turrentine's own "Sugar" among others. The concert hits a peak with a stirring performance of John Coltrane's monumental "Impressions," on which Turrentine proves his mastery of jazz improvisation.
