Description by OLDIES.com:
The Snows of Kilimanjaro is a 1952 American film based on the short story of the same name by Ernest Hemingway. The film stars Gregory Peck as Harry and Susan Hayward as Helen and was nominated for two Oscars. The story begins with Gregory Peck (Harry Street) on safari in Africa. Harry has a severely infected wound as he lies outside his tent awaiting a slow death. In a delirious state, Harry reflects upon a relationship he had with Cynthia Green (Ava Gardner), whom he met in Paris. Harry and Cynthia's relationship eventually begins to unravel when Harry leaves for a job as a war correspondent. Harry (Gregory Peck) later becomes engaged to a wealthy woman, Countess Elizabeth (Hildegard Knef), but still remains loyal to his memories of Cynthia. On the eve of their wedding, Elizabeth confronts Harry with a letter sent to him from Cynthia who is now living in Madrid. In a jealous rage, Elizabeth stalks off to Spain and Harry goes off to Madrid to find Cynthia and enlist in the Spanish Civil War .A fatal tragedy strikes Cynthia, and Harry returns to Paris where he meets Helen (Susan Hayward), who reminds him of Cynthia. Harry takes Helen on safari to Africa. As Harry awaits his death, Helen (Susan Hayward) is at his side, and you'll just have to watch this wonderful movie to see how it ends. A true Hemingway classic through and through.
