Rating: 2/5 --
The film's reluctance to overinvest in its religious significance will certainly not satisfy the spiritual nor will it come as a welcome relief to the skeptical, placing the overall audience in a state of limbo.

An odd, and not in a good way, preachy piece.

CAPTIVE won't dazzle you in the way the masters of mystery will, but the uncannily consistent work from Oyelowo and its positive outlook will indeed keep you captivated.

There is a moral somewhere in Captive but it is hard to work out what it is.

Captive is TV veteran Jerry Jameson's first theatrical feature since Airport '77. That's by far the most interesting thing about it.

A thriller of sorts that starts reasonably well before drifting to an aimless halt.

Product Description:
This inspirational drama is based on the true story of Ashley Smith (Kate Mara), a once drug addicted single mother who was taken hostage in her apartment by a troubled man named Brian Nichols (David Oyelowo). On the run after murdering a judge and two other people at the courthouse, convicted felon Nichols was a frenetic and threatening presence in the apartment, causing Smith to believe she would soon be killed. Despite her terror she slowly gained the trust of Nichols and was able to calm him by reading passages from a spiritual book. The incident has profoundly changed both of their lives with Ashley abstaining from drugs in the years since. She went on to write the book UNLIKELY ANGEL upon which this film is based. Directed by Jerry Jameson.
