Purdom lipsincs Lanza, and that is the real attraction of this operetta.

Description by OLDIES.com:
Prince Karl is in love -- with a barmaid! The ways of the heart clash with the mandates of state-arranged marriage in this regal Hollywood adaptation of the operetta by Sigmund Romberg, the composer whose life was the subject of the biopic Deep in My Heart. Edmund Purdom, lip-synching the rich singing of tenor Mario Lanza, portrays the on-screen Karl and Ann Blyth, who starred opposite Lanza in The Great Caruso, is the Heidelberg sweetheart the prince meets during what is supposed to be a final revelry before his royal wedding. Hermes Pan, choreographer of many Astaire-Rogers classics, brings Oktoberfest joy to the staging of several numbers.
Product Description:

a glorious MGM entertainment

The soundtrack with Mario Lanza is a great asset, but this film has many special qualities. Some critics have dismissed the film, while others appreciated the magic. One of MGM's first Cinemascope films, a huge success in the UK & Australia, it is sumptiously mounted, with a great cast . Edmund Purdom in his only appearance that "works", Ann Blyth and a back cast of well known character actors like Edmund Gwenn, SK Sakall, Louis Calhern...Fairly good transfer in full width 2:40 Cinemascope and stereo sound. Inexplicably, never given a full dvd release before this archive release.
