Diamond Daydreams, Volume 1: Atsuko + Karin

Based on a popular Japanese video game, DIAMOND DAYDREAMS is an ennui-laced anime series about the vicissitudes of modern love. Created by Oiji Hiroi (SAKURA WARS), directed by Bob Shirohata (GRAVITATION), and animated by Studio Deen (FRUITS BASKET), the well-pedigreed anime follows the unrelated tales of six lovelorn women during one particularly snowy winter on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. This four-episode volume kicks off the series with the stories of the first two women: Atsuko, a quiet young woman who is slated for an arranged marriage; and Karin, a terminally ill girl who falls in love with the doctor who is treating her.
