Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: B --
Fortunately, relief for the navel-gazing conversations comes in the actual film craft -- photography, production design, music, control of pace and tone -- which reveals Antonioni's blossoming mastery.
Oregonian
Redeemed by Antonioni's talent for episodes: the dismal picnic, the row in the restaurant, redecorating the apartment; and by his clever cutting and photography for character.

Esquire Magazine
A very minor early work from Michelangelo Antonioni.

Combustible Celluloid
4 stars out of 5 -- A beach scene, the camera constantly weaving and circling as gossip spreads and alliances are formed and broken, is virtuoso stuff.
Total Film
Rating: 4/4 --
An Antonioni film will frequently pose a riddle, and then never answer it; here the mystery of why Rosetta tries to kill herself becomes a pretense for the rest of the film.

Antonioni turns a glossy romantic melodrama of modern prosperity inside out to reveal the essence of modernity itself.

Product Description:
An early drama from director Antonioni (BLOW UP), LE AMICHE is an allegory about the changing roles of women in society. Clelia (Rossi-Drago) is a beautiful young woman who works in the fashion industry, where she discovers a world of shallow people with put-on attitudes and ideas. The only solace she is able to find in this cruel and phony world is in the companionship of young architect Carlo.
