Product Description:
Noteworthy as the final project of beloved comedian Dudley Moore, the series OSCAR'S ORCHESTRA essentially did in an animated, family-oriented vein what Moore and Sir Georg Solti's Showtime program ORCHESTRA! (1991) had done in a more traditional documentary context: it taught viewers about the nuances of music. The program takes place thousands of years in the future. In the land of New Vienna, the evil despot Thadius Vent has permanently banned music from existence. As a result, members of the population - mostly silenced and bored musical instruments - find it more and more challenging to make a living. The central character, however - a rebellious piano named Oscar - refuses to take Thadius's cruelties without protesting, and decides to lead a pack of his buddies - including Eric the Triangle, Monty the Violin, and Trevor the Tuba - on a heroic mission to bring melodies back to people's ears. This set presents the entire two-season, 26-episode series. Voices include Moore, Edward Fox, Robert Lindsay, Ruby Wax and others.
