Description by OLDIES.com:
The German Luftwaffe entered WWII with the world's most effective bomber force, planned as a tactical instrument designed to provide air support to the Army in what was assumed would be a short war. (1) BOMBERS & BOMBING RAIDS 1939-1942: The role of the Luftwaffe's bombing in the period of Germany's military expansion between 1939 and 1942 is told employing dramatic and graphic footage. (2) BOMBERS & BOMBING RAIDS 1942-1945: The decline of the Luftwaffe bombing arm is covered in the operations of the varied aircraft types employed, down to Germany's surrender in May, 1945.
Product Description:
This pair of history-themed documentaries investigates the various roles played and missions undertaken by German Luftwaffe Bombers in the brutal and nightmarish years of 1939-45. The package begins with BOMBERS & BOMBING RAIDS 1939-1942 - a look at the role of aircraft in enabling the military escalation of Hitler's troops - with detailed discussion of such crafts as the Heinkel He-111, the Junkers JU-88, and the Dornier D0-17, and how the Nazis naively believed that such airborne vehicles would enable them to carry out a swift and decisive defeat of the Allies. The second half of the package, BOMBERS & BOMBING RAIDS 1942-1945, commences with the failure of the German Bombing Unit to find a suitable replacement for medium-sized bombers and the added difficulties that the Germans faced with the Heinkel He-1777. It then traces the gradual decline of Luftwaffe aircraft in the context of Germany's gradual loss of power, culminating in the Nazi surrender in May 1945.
