The Welsh Miner covers the complete history of mining from the discovery of coal in the Welsh valleys in the seventeenth century to the destruction of the British coal industry. It covers the age of the coal masters, the formation of the unions, the war years, the years of nationalisation, de-industrialisation, cheap imports, the strike ridden seventies, and the final defeat of the unions. In many ways, it provides a potted history of the past three hundred years with particular reference to the twentieth century, a history that has much in common with that of all other Western nations.
