Espinof
Rating: 2.5/4 --
It's easy to see why many love this picture (great premise, fine action scenes, a score by Queen, Connery) but just as easy to see why many despise it (cheesy production values, stone-faced Lambert, ludicrous supporting characters, thudding dialogue).

Creative Loafing
Rating: 2/5 --
Since none of the characters makes sense even on the movie's own terms, Highlander keeps on exploding for almost two hours, with nothing at stake.

Lambert, with his beetle brow, broken nose, and vaguely crossed eyes, remains an amiable oddball presence, and Sean Connery radiates charm and nobility in a bit as an elder immortal who shows Lambert the rules of the game.

Time Out
Rating: 4/5 --
Highlander is the visual counterpart to rock band Queen (who supply a number of songs on the soundtrack) - big, brash and operatic filmmaking of the highest order.

Product Description:
Russell Mulcahy's original saga of immortal Scotsman Connor Macleod, one of a race of immortals who can only be killed when beheaded with a sword. After living in peace for four centuries, he is challenged by an old enemy named Kurgan.
During a fierce sword battle in the 1500s, Connor MacLeod, a simple Scotsman known as a poor fighter, is mortally wounded -- but he does not die. MacLeod learns from the mysterious Ramirez that he is of a race of immortals. These rare knights never age and never reproduce, they can only meet death by the blade of another of their kind. Leaping back and forth through the centuries, MacLeod once again meets the evil Kurgan who nearly killed him 500 years ago.
