Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 4/5 --
American micro-budget auteur Aaron Katz makes a delightful leap forward with this slouchy, deadbeat mystery yarn.

Daily Telegraph (UK)
[Director] Aaron Katz... may not have much money to work with but has everything else - a sly sense of humor, a light touch with relationships, and a keen sense of visual beauty. These virtues are all on display in this dreamy shape-shifter of a picture.

NPR's Fresh Air
It's a thriller involving the personalities of its characters, who we get to know surprisingly well....The acting is so good, you may not notice it.
Chicago Sun-Times
Rating: 2/5 --
It's an advance on Katz's other efforts.
London Evening Standard
The result is pretty entertaining, though most of that entertainment derives from Katz's skillful exploitation of gumshoe formula.

Chicago Reader
Katz is a triple threat, his editing every bit as important as his writing and directing for his movies' sense of place, shifting tonalities, and emotional vibrations.

Artforum
Katz here shows himself to also be one of the few American directors of his generation (he is 29) with a strong sense of composition and movement, sound design as suspense, landscape as character.

Product Description:
Aaron Katz wrote and directed this mumblecore comedy drama in which a guy with more ideas than experience plays private eye. Doug (Cris Lankenau) has long had a passion for classic detective fiction and enrolled in a college in Chicago to study forensic science with an eye toward someday working with the police. But after a few months, Doug's ambition runs out of steam, and he leaves the Midwest to move back to his hometown of Portland. Doug ends up moving in with his older sister, Gail (Trieste Kelly Dunn), and taking a variety of odd jobs that won't tax his energy or intelligence. However, Doug unexpectedly gets another shot at becoming a detective when his former girlfriend disappears and he's asked to help track her down. Doug joins forces with his pal Carlos (Raúl Castillo) and starts smoking a pipe so he'll feel more like Sherlock Holmes, but as the search goes on the case becomes more complicated (and potentially dangerous) than expected. COLD WEATHER received its world premiere at the 2010 South by Southwest Film Festival.
