Product Description:
Saxophonist and vocalist Lonnie Youngblood's close personal connection to Jimi Hendrix began in New York City in the early 1960's – in Harlem to be exact, long before Jimi became a household name. The two played in the same bands and were veterans of the city's burgeoning R&B scene. Recording sessions done with Youngblood just a few months before Jimi was discovered by future manager Chas Chandler in 1966 are among the first recordings to feature Jimmy as a soloist, rather than just a back-up player. Lonnie and Jimi remained close friends until Jimi's untimely death in 1970 and jammed together in the studio and on stage as late as 1969. On “Psychedelic Experience - A Tribute To Jimi Hendrix” – veteran saxophonist, vocalist and bandleader Youngblood teams with legendary R&B producer Butch Ingram (Barbara Mason, Major Harris, Blue Magic, Patti LaBelle) for a soul / funk tribute to the music of an old friend and jamming partner.
