. . .Hands of Stone Venezuelan writer/director Jonathan Jakubowicz muddies their story, hurrying from one unnecessary, underdeveloped scene to another. Full Review

Rating: 3.5/5 -- This is certainly no Raging Bull. However, if you can invest in a boxer who is boisterous and bratty, Duran may hold your interest. Full Review

Although it's a split decision with a few rounds of the storytelling, Hands of Stone goes the distance for the win. Full Review

The physicality and detail here are convincing, down to the way the film takes care not to have Ramírez actually vocalize Duran’s alleged surrender. But the highlight is Duran and Arcel’s bonding in the corner between rounds.

Rating: 2/5 -- Only comes out as incompetent at best. Full Review

Rating: C -- All this cacophony of backstory ends up being counterproductive, especially when the film tries to convey what makes this fighter worthy of tribute (or forgiveness or reconsideration, depending on your perspective). Full Review

Product Description:

This biopic about boxing legend Roberto Duran (Edgar Ramirez) follows his rise from a two-fisted street urchin in Panama to a gifted amateur known for Round 1 knockouts. Along the way he gains fame, riches and the love of Felicidad (Ana de Armas), but a chance meeting with boxing coach Ray Arcel (Robert De Niro) takes his fighting skills to a level where he can defeat American champion Sugar Ray Leonard (Usher Raymond). The lessons Arcel teaches his protégé about psychological cleverness in and out of the ring carries Duran through the darkest part of his career, when the notorious "No más" rematch against Leonard threatens to derail his entire legacy. Robert De Niro's adopted daughter Drena De Niro plays Ray Arcel's adopted daughter in this bilingual feature written and directed by Venezuelan director Jonathan Jakubowicz.
