Entertainment Reviews:
[D]irector Michael Corrente's borough-specific details and SOPRANOS writer Terence Winter's well-drawn characters alchemize oft-used ingredients into a satisfying meal.
Box Office
Rating: 2/5 --
a fuzzy film sporting more bad Brooklyn accents and mob-movie cliches than Knockaround Guys which, all things considered, is hard to do.
Manhattan Movie Magazine
Rating: .5/5 --
Absolutely nothing to recommend the film as anything other than a sagging collection of predictable clichés and brain-numbing boredom.

Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC)
Top cast delivers terrific characterisations, with all three leads showing deep talents, as does Mena Suvari in a small and thankless but important role.

If we were playing by mob rules, this movie would get the 'slicer' treatment for trying to impersonate a Scorsese picture.

Capturing Manhattan's essence is easy. But capturing life inside provincial New York City -- is something that eludes most filmmakers...And now add Brooklyn Rules to the short list of movies that get it right.

Product Description:
BROOKLYN RULES is an outstanding coming-of-age drama set on the mean streets of Brooklyn. In 1974, Michael Turner (Paulo Araujo), Bobby Canzoneri (Daniel Tay), and Carmine Mancuso (Ty Reed) are three young friends who like to think of themselves as tough guys. After they find a dead body--and a gun--their lives are in for a change. Eleven years later, Michael (Freddie Prinze Jr.) is working at a deli and studying at Columbia; Bobby (Jerry Ferrara) is a ne'er-do-well who's nervous about proposing to his girlfriend, Amy (Monica Keena); and Carmine (Scott Caan) is starting to do small jobs for the local mob, run by Caesar Manganaro (Alec Baldwin). At school, Michael falls for one of his classmates, Ellen (Mena Suvari), a society girl who sees through his preppie persona and is attracted to his tougher side. Michael wants nothing to do with the mob, but Carmine mistakenly gets him involved with Caesar, jeopardizing his career--and his life. Engaging and wholly believable, BROOKLYN RULES was written by Terence Winter, an Emmy-winning writer and executive producer of THE SOPRANOS, inspired by events from his own life; in fact, the real-life Carmine, Chris Caldovino, appears in the film as Philly, Caesar's right-hand man. Director Michael Corrente (FEDERAL HILL) shot the film in less than a month on location in Brooklyn and Manhattan, capturing the heart and soul of the characters and the neighborhoods. The period soundtrack features songs by Dire Straits, Van Halen, Billy Idol, Culture Club, and ABC.
