Rating: C+ --
While its story of conquering racism still transmits hope, LOVING's presentation merely goes through the motions of the central couple's account without furnishing it with the affection it requires to transcend.

Fresh Fiction
The power of the film’s final act, where the Lovings finally have created a safe place for themselves and their children, cannot be exaggerated....By that point, the director’s subtlety, and Edgerton and Negga’s commitment to their characters’ emotional truth, has already conveyed the true heart of LOVING.
The Atlantic
Negga's performance captures the lightning of Mildred's love for Richard... But by bottling up this intensity and minimizing her own presence, Negga also captures the physical reality of a black woman living in a region entrenched in Jim Crow bigotry.

[A] film of utmost sensitivity....It features two of the best American performances of the past several years...
Variety
LOVING is a quietly radical movie. A portrait of Richard and Mildred Loving, who became unwitting activists for interracial marriage when they wed in 1958, this gentle, deeply affecting story dispenses with the usual conventions of stirring appeals to the audience’s social conscience.
Washington Post
A true love story that is not afraid of compromises or silence as a way of expression. [Full Review in Spanish]

Product Description:
Jeff Nichols (MIDNIGHT SPECIAL, MUD) wrote and directed this biopic about Virginian interracial couple Richard and Mildred Loving (played by Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga), who were sentenced to prison in 1958 for violating the state's laws against miscegenation. The Lovings decided to fight back, and their case led to a landmark Supreme Court decision that struck down laws prohibiting interracial marriage.
