Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 3.5/5 --
Ang Lee's most topical and "lifelike" film yet.

Film Companion
3 stars out of 5 -- What makes sense of this is Joe Alwyn’s placid, moving performance. A master at undercurrents in still lives, Lee milks the photogenic sweetness in his discovery’s cherub cheeks and blue eyes -- the model soldier whose dirty secret is that he’s a real soldier too.
Empire
Rating: 2.5/5 --
Ang Lee's approach is too earnest in trying to make an emotionally resonant story without the rough edges the material demands.

You're unlikely to hear a less convincing sounding film this year, whereby actors are tasked with the impossible in a film that so often resembles an infomercial than any reflection of reality.

Chicago Cinema Circuit
Rating: 4/5 --
The film is very good at capturing the camaraderie of the soldiers -- and the sometimes desperate way in which they rely on one another.

Independent (UK)
Rating: 2/5 --
The film has neither topical immediacy nor any real historical perspective and, burdened with pedantic and predictable flashbacks, it finally leads nowhere interesting at all.

In essence, a failed experiment.

Product Description:
After a video of him saving his sergeant's life during a battle in Iraq goes viral, a 19-year-old U.S. soldier named Billy Lynn (Joe Alwyn) is invited, along with his squad mates, to return to the States for a promotional tour involving a military celebration during a Thanksgiving football game. However, the experience only makes Lynn feel more alienated from a society that doesn't truly understand or appreciate the sacrifices of its soldiers. Kristen Stewart, Vin Diesel, Garrett Hedlund, Steve Martin, Tim Blake Nelson, and Chris Tucker co-star. Directed by Ang Lee, BILLY LYNN'S LONG HALFTIME WALK is based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by Ben Fountain.
