Nova Lost at Sea: The Search for Longitude

Narrated by actor Richard Dreyfuss (JAWS), this program from PBS's NOVA series chronicles the history behind longitude, the arduous scientific task of being able to determine the exact geographic coordinate measurements of a sailing ship. After nearly five decades of research, English clockmaker John Harrison came up with the solution of the longitude watch in the 18th century, winning the reward of six million pounds offered by the British Parliament.
