Description by OLDIES.com:

Living under the threat of an atomic holocaust, a group of scientists build the Cyclotram, a vehicle capable of drilling to the center of the earth. Dr. Jeremiah Morley and his team enter the earth through a volcano in search of an inhabitable new world 1,500 miles below the planet's surface. Their mission is threatened by disaster as their water supply is contaminated and two members of the team are killed by toxic gas. They find an underground cavern, which may be the new world they seek, but when they begin their testing, the scientists discover an unexpected surprise. New Mexico's Carlsbad Caverns provides the set for many of the inner-earth scenes and director Terry Morse (Godzilla, King of the Monsters) delivers otherworldly scenery and outstanding special effects. This sci-fi odyssey touches on the nuclear paranoia of the Cold War era with chilling effect.

Product Description:

A brilliant research scientist develops a powerful digging device so that people can hide from exploding atomic bombs. The scientist is played by Victor Kilian who is perhaps best known for his role as Grandpa Larkin in the MARY HARTMAN, MARY HARTMAN television series.

Unknown World Movie Lover: from saint germain en laye, Yvelines FR -- November, 17, 2006

If like me you grew up in fifties, this was one of many films, classed grade 'B' which in many cases had class 'A' feel for style and intelligience, if not the big stars, and was run a LOT.
Present generation, with some exceptions would probably greet it with a yawn, or just turn off. They are weened on over the top action and gore; and NOT IN COLOR! No way! But a good film of it's genre and generation at a good price.

Deep, dark, and dead Movie Lover: from Media, PA US -- July, 17, 2006

I've got mixed feelings on this movie. On one thing, it was a complete movie. There were decent characters and development, plot, conflict, special effects that did not involve tinfoil or gorilla suits, and some decent Sci to back up the Fi. However, something in this movie feels empty. It's generally bleary, with a depressing pall that's not fully lifted by the no-place-like-home ending. The movie doesn't have much action, or fantastic creatures, or natural wonders. Like the underground world it explores, it is dark, cold, and barren.
