The key to its success is the decision ... to take time out from Junior's grooming as a movie matinee idol and cast him as a sniveling creep

Description by OLDIES.com:
The Sadist is a film so horrifying in its implications that it will haunt you for the rest of your life. Charlie Tibbs, an escaped homicidal maniac, has left a trail of rampage and murder across the countryside. When a group of school teachers stop to repair their car on a desolate highway, they are brutally attacked by Tibbs who tortures them in a terrifying game of cat and mouse. Arch Hall, Jr., who starred in a series of Fairway-International films in the 60s, had previously only been cast as all-American rock 'n' roll types. In The Sadist, however, he gives the performance of his career in a role so unforgettable that his ferocity remains unsurpassed in the annals of horror. Hall's portrayal, along with a vivid screenplay and cinematography by future Academy Award-winner Vilmos Zsigmond (The Deer Hunter), creates a powerful work of art that is as shocking now as it was in 1963.
Product Description:
Three small-town teachers are stranded at a deserted gas station on their way to a Dodger game. They are mercilessly tortured by a homicidal maniac and his imbecilic girlfriend. Also called "Profile of Terror."

If Arch Hall Jr. sang in this film it would be perfect. Marilyn Manning is her usual gorgeous self, and there is actual suspense and terror in this film, odd for a Hall vehicle.

After watching his monumental performances in "Eegah" and "Wild Guitar", Arch Hall Jr.'s work in "The Sadist" is a bit of a come down. Why, you may ask? Well, he does not give us any of his wonderful singing!! Marilyn Manning (hubba hubba) is along side him once again, and she naturally rules. But no singing from Arch prevents me from giving this a five star rating. As it is, it's still very good.
