Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 2/4 --
For every sharp one-liner about a pampered college football team that's "so corrupt it could use its yearbook photos as mug shots," there's a brain-numbing plot development that's straight out of a desperate sitcom.

Rating: 2/5 --
An American football comedy which replays all the situations and clichés from the baseball saga Major League, but with a minor-league cast and clumsy direction from Stan Dragoti.

Rating: 2/4 --
The shameless commercialism and hypocrisy of big-time college football is a target as inviting as a receiver wide open in the end zone. But the muddled huddle that is Necessary Roughness is one long fumble strewn with offensive lines.

...[Bakula] has a laid-back quality that makes him a welcome, easy-to-take presence on the big screen...
Los Angeles Times

South Florida Sun-Sentinel
This gridiron comedy piles up cliches the way Notre Dame racks up yardage, with an option-variety screenplay that promiscuously pitches the story in multiple directions.

Product Description:
Aging ex-quarterback Paul Blake (Scott Bakula) enrolls in college in order to fullfill his adolescent high school dream of playing college football. Unfortunately, his new team has been put on notice for violating NCAA rules, and all the veterans have been kicked out. Undaunted, Blake helps put together a team comprised of football-playing misfits and a female placekicker. In the midst of all this, he falls in love with one of the professors and must outwit the dean of the college, who is trying to cancel the football program.
