Entertainment Reviews:
[Cruise] does strut quite ably through a version of 'Pour Some Sugar on Me' -- it’s his best moment, and one of the liveliest bits in the movie.
Movieline
Hough, who was good in the "Footloose" remake, is pretty engaging in the lead role -- much more than her male counterpart -- while Cruise nearly steals the movie playing the fading alcohol-hazed rock star.

3.5 stars out of 5 -- [A] perfect brew of classic '80s songs, big laughs and rockin' performances....With a terrific cast and a standout turn from Tom Cruise as a zoned-out rocker...
USA Today
Rating: 4/5 --
"Rock Of Ages" is a soundtrack in search of a story, but it turns its utter disregard for narrative into its strongest ally.

Cinemixtape
This is truly a jukebox musical, celebrating a genre rather than an oeuvre, cramming well-known rock anthems and ballads into a stylised LA-set love story....What this metal mash-up has going for it is a thick seam of affectionate, exuberant 1980s parody...

3.5 stars out of 5 -- With a terrific cast and a standout turn from Tom Cruise as a zoned-out rocker....ROCK OF AGES shouldn't disappoint fans of the show or the era's music.

Rating: B+ --
Rock of Ages probably won't blow too many people's minds, but it still makes us want to sing along much of the time, and the tone is just right, kind without being preachy, humorous without being overly facetious.

Product Description:
A small-town girl and a big-city boy find their fates intersecting on the Sunset Strip, riding a wave of romance through the height of the "hair metal" scene as the off-Broadway musical rocks its way to the big screen courtesy of choreographer-turned-director Adam Shankman (A WALK TO REMEMBER, HAIRSPRAY). Arriving in Hollywood with stars in her eyes, Sherrie (Julianne Hough) meets Drew (Diego Boneta), and together they plunge headlong into the local rock scene. Meanwhile, as Sherrie struggles to stay afloat in a churning sea of rock 'n' roll excess, she gets swept off her feet by audacious rock star Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise). Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, and Bryan Cranston co-star in a movie featuring music by Journey, Def Leppard, Poison, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, Foreigner, Joan Jett, and REO Speedwagon.
