In "Robert The Bruce," which is directed by Richard Gray and written by Eric Belgau and Angus Macfadyen, the story being told is less about myth and more about reality.

Light on action, but strong performances throughout in this relaxed historical biopic.

Unless you are a direct descendant of Robert the Bruce, or perhaps part of the Macfayden clan, you're better off letting this particular version of history get lost in the sands of time.

Rating: 2.5/5 --
Robert the Bruce places too much emphasis on the secondary characters. The film could have been titled "Morag the Widow Saves Scotland."

It's easy to understand Macfayden's desire to reprise one of his most important screen roles... Despite this, however, Robert the Bruce doesn't represent a notable addition to the Braveheart legacy.

There's a big sword battle at the film's climax.

Faced with the consequences of his army's consistent failure, Scottish nobleman Robert the Bruce (Angus Macfadyen) flees from conflict to heal his wounds and escape those seeking to turn him in to collect the reward for his capture. Robert finds shelter in the home of a peasant woman (Anna Hutchison), and the two develop a strong friendship as she and the three children in her charge tend to him.
