Description by OLDIES.com:

The night before he's to be sworn in as the city's new District Attorney, Lawrence Dale (Edmund MacDonald) is killed in a car crash. Police are puzzled, wondering what the body of the notorious gangster, Dixie Logan was doing in the same wreck. It takes a shrewd and resourceful newspaper reporter, George Mitchell (Russell Wade) to discover that the young DA is crooked and that he had framed the gangster on a murder charge. To complicate this tale of crime and vengeance in the big city, rival gangs are vying for power and many of the town's politicians are corrupt, making the crusading journalist's investigation both difficult and dangerous.

Product Description:

Nice Little Obscure Film Noir Gem Movie Lover: from Walnut Creek, CA US -- November, 22, 2007

Although the quality of the film -with already low production values- on this DVD is low, the classic film noir plot and "nobody's innocent" atmosphere make this well worthwhile. The direction is good, with nice touches, and despite a few gaping holes in the plot, this story of a newspaper reporter, a viciously corrupt assistant district attorney, and his secretary moves right along with fun twists and turns. The Gene Rodgers piano playing early in the film -which just manages to cut through the poor audio quality on this DVD- adds to the fun.

A terrific little "lost gem" of B movie Film Noir! Movie Lover: from MA -- January, 16, 2005

I (contrary to a reviewer on Amazon) found the movie watchable, and pretty darned interesting and entertaining to boot. A crooked assistant District Attorney frames one crime boss and is in cahoots with several others. He's assisted by his secretary/wife, who is one of the more fascinating female characters I've seen in Film Noir. Perky but iron-hard, pretty but razor-sharp, she's got more on the ball than any of the killers, bosses, politicians and reporters whose violent world she coolly navigates. A Machiavellian tale is told, with fast and furious killings and more plot twists than you'd think could ever be squeezed into 64 minutes.

There's also a great boogie woogie piano piece played by Gene Rodgers as a musical interlude (albeit a little awkwardly inserted). All in all, a fine piece of entertainment and a terrific little "lost gem" of B movie Film Noir!
