The improbabilities and sheer banality of Christine Bartlett's screenplay are almost overcome by the quality of the cast, but not quite.

An offbeat and entertaining ensemble piece that disappointingly ends on a lukewarm note.

Clumsily cobbled, tonally confused romantic comedy...a terrific premise with strong leads is sadly derailed by too many side stories.

The Wedding Party may well have been a better film if the underdone premise of the fake wedding had been done away with altogether, because the movie is more interesting when it picks at the foibles and fears that gather around these couples.

I don't think it's a film that aims very high and it sort of achieves what it aims to do, I think. I found it perfectly amiable.

Product Description:
Guy (Richard Roxburgh) is getting married. His new wife Lizzie (Cate Blanchett) is beautiful, wealthy and totally in love with Guy. It should be the perfect marriage, except that Guy can't help thinking about Jenny (Frances O'Connor), his first girlfriend from so long ago.
Description by Image Entertainment:
Guy (Richard Roxburgh) has finally met the perfect woman. Lizzie (Cate Blanchett) is gorgeous, kind, rich and crazy about him. So why can't he stop thinking about his first love, Jenny (Frances O'Connor)' On his wedding day, Guy relives his intoxicating but doomed relationship with Jenny--her outrageous, sexy seduction, their near-fatal vacations and most of all, their making-up moments after the fights. It's enough to make him think he's marrying the wrong woman. For the hopeless romantic in all of us, "The Wedding Party" is a warm and witty look at love, life and commitment--even if you've got cold feet!
