As a documentary on the USS Nimitz, The Final Countdown is wonderful. As entertainment, however, it has the feeling of a telepic that strayed onto the big screen. Full Review
Rating: 3/4 -- Best bad movie of the year. Best because it's carefully crafted, streamlined entertainment, bad because it's monumentally silly. We know it's awful, but we have fun anyway. Full Review
An idea worthy of Harlan Ellison, but disappointingly fumbled. Full Review
Rating: 2/4 -- Something you'd watch on TV for free without complaint. Full Review
Sci-Fi Movie Page
Rating: 4/5 -- Great what if sci-fi with a nuclear aircraft carrier, a time warp, and the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Rating: 2/4 -- Little more than a lengthy Twilight Zone episode. Full Review
Rating: 8/10 -- One of the better time-travel movies. Generates lots of suspense because it's directed and acted with a great deal of conviction. John Scott's musical score is outstanding.
When an inexplicable phenomenon transports a modern nuclear warship back in time to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the crew must decide between allowing the bloody attack to take place and preventing it, which could forever change the course of history. This thrilling science fiction blockbuster features a stellar cast, including Kirk Douglas, Martin Sheen, Charles Durning, Katherine Ross and James Farentino, as the crew and war era government officials who must decide the future of the world.
Due to a freak electrical storm, the USS Nimitz, the world's largest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, is transported back to December 6, 1941, in time to head off the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. As the fateful hour grows near, the ship's commanders must wrestle with the moral and ethical dilemmas of interfering with the progress of history.
