Rating: B- -- The acting saves Chuck from being just the umpteenth white boxer biopic, but we're fast approaching the copy-of-a-copy-of-a-copy stage of this genre. Full Review

... if you like little oddball slices of (mostly) forgotten history and don't mind a shaggy story, this is a smallish, fun movie. Full Review

Rating: 3/4 -- Liev Schreiber is top-notch in the lead role in this funny, sad and warm cautionary tale. Full Review

Rating: 3.5/5 -- Schreiber is outstanding as the title character, but he also has a great supporting cast. Full Review

His fall and redemption are a little too familiar to carry the movie, but there's an odd hall-of-mirrors quality to all this: prone to quoting Requiem for a Heavyweight, Wepner is transmogrified into the movies himself. Full Review

Liev Schreiber is outstanding as the hulking, rough-edged, amiable and charismatic Wepner, whose primary skill in the ring was his Jake La Motta-esque ability to take a punch and keep on fighting, resulting in one of the most ignominious names in pugilistic history.

Rating: 3/5 -- The downfall isn't as satisfying as the setup, and a sudden burst of energy associated with the introduction of cocaine actually acts to slow things down, but it's worth seeing for the performances. Full Review

Product Description:

This biopic of 1970s boxer Chuck Wepner (played here by Liev Schreiber) details his humble beginnings as a liquor salesman in working-class New Jersey, his 15-round fight against Muhammad Ali (Pooch Hall) in 1975, and his brief brush with fame when Sylvester Stallone (Morgan Spector) used him as an inspiration for the character of Rocky Balboa. Naomi Watts, Ron Perlman, and Elisabeth Moss co-star. Directed by Philippe Falardeau.
