Well acted but sentimental small-town melodrama about a teacher who has devoted all of her life to work.

Not much to say about such sentimental humbug, except it's all so very nicely done and let's give three cheers for Miss Bishop.

Description by OLDIES.com:
Tomboy Ella Bishop has blossomed into a smart, sophisticated woman. Blinded by her desire to better the lives of those around her by becoming a teacher, Ella spurns the romantic advances of her childhood friend Sam. A simple shopkeeper who understands Ella's devotion to others, Sam waits patiently for the day the love he feels for Ella will be returned in kind. From a rocky start as a young school teacher, to the unexpected adoption of an abandoned child, and finally as the venerated old maid who has inspired scores of her students to achieve greatness, Miss Bishop, deserves three cheers!

A Charming Movie!

This is a really charming little film. I discovered it many years ago on American Movie Classics, so I was thrilled to see it on DVD. For the price this is a pretty good print. The story of one teacher's life and how it touched so many other lives is not a new story, but it is done very well here because of the wonderful acting by Martha Scott. A must see!

I remember seeing the last 15 minutes of this movie about 30 to 35 years ago and thought that I had missed a good one. Well...I was wrong...this is a GREAT movie. Though I would consider it more a "chick flick" using today's terminology, it is a good, wholesome, family movie and highly suggest adding it to your DVD library. Enjoy!
