Entertainment Reviews:
[F]ast and blisteringly funny....A romantic comedy that’s also an extended riff on art, identity, authenticity and what it means to be a black entertainer...
New York Times
The film, like Rock, is impressive, gritty, real to the bone and sidesplittingly funny.

New York Amsterdam News
A vibrant sense of possibility and joy propels TOP FIVE, Chris Rock’s ode to romance, New York, artistic ideals and gutsy self-invention.
Washington Post
A weirdly hollow story that is neither funny enough nor moving enough.

Lagniappe (Mobile, AL)
Though Rock is funny throughout the film, the story would have collapsed in the absence of the cameos.

The Stranger (Seattle, WA)
4 stars out of 5 -- The best aspect is watching Rock on blistering form, pricking the pomposity of the film biz while mixing in real-life cameos...
Total Film
Rock's script isn't afraid to get raunchy, sometimes a little too much, but there is a bit of heart at the center. Dawson and Rock have the chemistry to make it work, even when it feels a little contrived.
