Product Description:

The first year of American involvement in World War II is traced in this well-researched documentary. From the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States mobilized fifteen million men to fight, while countless women entered the workforce to fill the manufacturing jobs left behind. 1942 was a year that started badly for the United States as Japan successfully advanced through much of the Pacific. Mid-year, though, American forces stopped the Japanese at the battle of Midway and by the end of the year had landed on French North Africa, developments that Churchill would describe as the "turning of the tide."
