Rating: 3/4 -- The movie has many lovely moments and just as many dead spots, but its strengths make this atypical film from Francis Coppola a worthwhile viewing experience. Full Review

Rating: 4/4 -- This time Coppola apparently simply wanted to make a movie, and put some characters on the screen, and tell a story. He has, all right. This is one of the best movies of the year. Full Review

...Nothing prepares you for the rush of real emotion the film generates, for its poignance, its reassurance or its high of pure pleasure...

It's grave, lumbering, arrhythmic, and bloated, an emotional hogwallow of catchpenny insights and easy sentimentality. Full Review

Even if it falls apart a bit at the end, it is basically a well-crafted and entertaining film. But I cannot help but be distressed by the fact that... the female time-traveler is passive in and little enriched by her re-exploration of the past. Full Review

Ignore the ridiculous happy ending of this film, and you have a much more fatalistic exercise in which Coppola eschews easy laughs in favour of the exposure of feeling and the fact that these people's lives, however empty, matter to them. Full Review

The film often soars into the imaginary heavens of delight but then just as quickly sputters and crash lands due to Coppola's leaden helming. Full Review
