Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 4/10 --
It's a shame this story about sinning saints doesn't provide the necessary shock and awe entertainment, because director J.T. Petty is sitting on some serious cult cinema potential - it just never is achieved.

Hellbenders mostly feels like a doodle, an amiable lark that will amuse genrephiles and anyone else with their sights set appropriately low.

The Dissolve
Rating: 2.5/5 --
Hellbenders doesn't take any risks, leaving the horror at too low a level and trying to get comedy from a situation where there isn't any, making this nothing more than a very forgettable film.

Expends so much time and effort in trying to become the next big cult sensation that it never gets around to simply being a good movie.

It seems like a charming throwback to 1980s films, like "Ghostbusters" and "Police Academy," that featured motley, sloppy brigades of justice.3

New York Times
Aided by capable if unnecessary 3D effects, Petty displays a flair for staging violent action, but he's trapped inside a broad comic set-up that doesn't mesh with the story's innate meanness.

At a mere 85 minutes, the film feels stretched beyond belief, and if there are any genuine prayers to be had for the film, it's for the end that never comes soon enough.

Product Description:
A debauched band of exorcists face off against a powerful demon intent on destroying humanity in this 3D horror/comedy from director J.T. Petty (THE BURROWERS). Demons dragging you down' The Hellbound Saints of Brooklyn Parish are the folks you call on when the church-sanctioned exorcist fails to deliver you from evil. Their leader, Angus (Clancy Brown) is a sinner of the highest order, and he expects nothing less of his followers. According to Angus, the more sins committed, the better equipped his crew will be to face evil on its own horrible terms. And his loyal apprentice Stephen (Andre Royo) keeps a detailed log of every transgression in order to ensure everyone is prepared for the infernal fight ahead. When the Hellbound Saints encounter a diabolical force that threatens to herald the apocalypse and learn that a meddling church bureaucrat is intent on shutting them down, they vow to violate God's law with such vigor that they will be able to escort their wicked adversary straight to the gates of hell.
