The story comes from a million other movies (mainly Jaws and Alien), and it's completely and totally predictable. Full Review
Rating: C -- Though based on an original and respected novel, Hyams' horror thriller comes across as a pastiche of the genre's conventions as evident in major pictures of the past two decades, such as Jaws and the first two Alien films.
Rating: 3.5/5 -- A slick, witty, and unexpectedly effective little genre throwback. Full Review

...Genuinely intense special effects...
Rating: 3/4 -- All of this is actually a lot of fun, if you like special effects and gore. Full Review
Rating: 2.5/4 -- In the end, The Relic erupts into a monster mash. Hyams has filmed it excitingly, and Stan Winston delivers a blazing special effect. But there is a bit too much of Godzilla in the monster when it finally is revealed in all of its ghastly glory. Full Review
Plucky evolutionary biologist Dr. Margo Green (Penelope Ann Miller) joins forces with tough Chicago cop Lt. Vincent D'Agosta (Tom Sizemore) to unravel the mystery behind the horribly mangled corpses that keep popping up around her museum during an opening night gala. When they investigate further they find that there were mysterious deaths on the cargo ship that brought it across the ocean. Sure enough, there's a monster to blame, sprung from a strange artifact of South American origin. Based on the bestseller by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Also starring Linda Hunt and James Whitmore. Directed by Peter Hyams (THE PRESIDIO, 2010.)
