light and frothy from start to finish. Thanks to [the producers] and to the principals, it's well worth seeing. And thanks to Hugh Herbert, it's worth seeing twice. Full Review

Rating: C -- Substandard screwball comedy has the silliness but lacks the humor, as its directed without an ear for zany comedy by Rowland V Lee. Full Review

Description by OLDIES.com:

Philippe Martin, a handsome actor, thinks he is passionately kissing his clandestine lover in a darkened Paris movie theater. Unfortunately, he is in the wrong seat and a very pretty but shocked girl cries out. Worse still, a member of the National Legion of Decency is nearby and a scandal erupts. The beautiful young girl is none other than Monique Pelenin, daughter of a powerful publishing magnate, and the story grabs national headlines, with poor Philippe branded "The Kissing Bandit." Facing a stiff prison term, the actor must go on trial before the entire nation and defend what he holds most sacred -- a Frenchmen's right to be romantic!

Director Rowland V. Lee's credits include The Son Of Frankenstein (1939), The Tower of London (1939) and The Bridge Of San Luis Rey (1944) working once again with leading man Francis Lederer in the latter. Ida Lupino's multifaceted career ran from the 1930s to the 1960s and included memorable roles in High Sierra (1941), The Sea Wolf (1941) and The Hitch-Hiker (1953).
