At the heart of the problem with this movie are matters of logic and cogency.

Tina Fey and Paul Rudd are Hollywood's comedy sweethearts... But while the film gets high scores, it's not passing with flying colors.

[Fey] boasts an improvisation ace's deadly acumen in timing a rejoinder and sealing a moment with just the right punctuation.

The themes are important, even if in this Hollywood laundering they are sloshed about in love suds and clattered by uneven comedy spins.

Portia is in many ways a typical [Tina] Fey character but the unfunny and clichéd script too often reminds us this is no 30 Rock.

It pains me to lay this problem at the feet of the leads, of whom I am, independently, quite fond. They are both likeable, and I'll even grant them some chemistry, but their characters' situations become too serious for the performances they deliver.

The movie subverts expectations, and not in a good way, by seeming in a dither about its own identity.

Product Description:
Tina Fey and Paul Rudd star in director Paul Weitz's comedy about an uptight Princeton admissions officer who encounters a teenage prodigy who may be her long-lost son while recruiting students from an alternative high school. Years ago, Portia Nathan (Fey) quietly placed her newborn son up for adoption. Now she's got a great career recruiting students for Princeton University. Then, one day, she receives an unexpected call from her free-spirited college classmate John Pressman (Rudd), who runs an alternative high school that's home to some very gifted students. One such student is Jeremiah (Nat Wolff), whom John believes could be the son that Portia gave up for adoption back in her youth. Meanwhile, as Portia puts her career in jeopardy by altering Jeremiah's transcript, an unexpected romance begins to blossom.
