Rating: 4/5 -- Like other Ghibli films, Earwig and the Witch treats childhood in a more adult way than most children's animations, with the emphasis being on gentle manipulation rather than innocence. Full Review

Rating: 2/5 -- If Ghibli wanted to make their own mockbuster, then they pulled it off. Full Review

Rating: A- -- Fans should give this film a chance, if only to hear Richard E. Grant's voice work. It is a delightful variation on a theme of Alice in Wonderland/Tabitha the Teenage Witch. Full Review

Rating: 4.2/10 -- Earwig and the Witch is, by normal standards, a misfire-and by Ghibli's standards it's much worse. Full Review

Rating: C- -- There's very little stakes and there's very little character goals, so it's hard to get invested in the story or the characters. Full Review

Even if far from being top-tier Ghibli, it's not without its fantastical pleasures. Full Review

Rating: 3/5 -- It sacrifices Studio Ghibli's hand-drawn style but it's the absence of the studio's usual emotional beats that's the bigger problem. Full Review

Product Description:

Directed by Gorô Miyazaki, this full-length animated feature from Studio Ghibli revolves around 10-year old Earwig, a precocious child who grew up in a unique orphanage where children can practically do things that are always forbidden of them. She was abandoned by her witch mother, but another witch, Bella Yaga, later adopts her. When she is taken to Bella's home, she finds out that she will serve as an assistant. Hardheaded Earwig agrees to abide by house rules if Bella teaches her how to do magic. Adapted from the novel by Diana Wynne Jones.
