Entertainment Reviews:
Product Description:
Humble comedian Mike Birbiglia stars as Stanley Cuba, a man whose life and art, like his name, seem to imitate those of legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick. While in the midst of recovering from a breakup with his girlfriend, Cuba learns he is being pursued by intellectual property lawyers over issues with his photography work. He accidentally knocks himself over the head with a black monolith--er, obelisk--and flashes forward to the future to discover many important things, not least of which the recipe of painter Jackson Pollack's success and the secret behind room 237. Can Cuba grasp the true meaning of these things without having to kiss his girlfriend's mom' This deadpan satire is both a parody of Kubrick's work and an examination of parody itself.
Description by York Entertainment:
Stanley Cuba is a hapless photographer whose life seems to parallel that of legendary director Stanley Kubrick. During a particularly bad week he searches for his lost dog Spartacus, mourns the death of Joey Ramone, is hounded by Hell's lawyers out to claim his artistic soul, and recovers from a breakup with a girl who has "repurposed" their relationship. His only salvation is his art, in particular winning an upcoming photography competition, but unfortunately for Stanley his artistic abilities aren't quite as ambitious as his namesakes!
