Rating: 2/5 -- Sobol ... borrows widely and unfashionably from the Guy Ritchie stylebook: he's either missed the trend by ten years or pre-empted the revival by 20. Full Review

3 stars out of 5 -- [W]hat lifts the film into three-stardom is Terence Stamp, in a predictably elegant support role as a thief set to catch the other crooks.

Rating: 2/4 -- An uneven, mildly amusing, and highly derivative flick featuring a wonderful, quirky cast as a crew of art thieves who run a complex scam on the art world, and on each other. Full Review

THE ART OF THE STEAL is a fairly amusing heist film with some sibling tension helping the story along.

Product Description:

An art thief-turned-motorcycle daredevil pulls his old crew back together for one last heist in this caper film from writer/director Jonathan Sobol (A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO ENDINGS). Crunch Calhoun (Kurt Russell) has a reputation for big stunts, and hard landings. Now that years of motorbike mishaps have taken their toll on the aging Crunch, he is tempted back into a life of crime in order to make a buck. Unfortunately, Crunch isn't the best when it comes to choosing his criminal cohorts, and he winds up in prison after being double-crossed by his scheming half-brother Nicky (Matt Dillon). His retirement fund depleted by the time he's released, Crunch sets his sights on one last score that will set him up for life. The mission: Assemble a team, steal the Guttenberg Bible, replace it with a counterfeit, and collect a cool $20 million. With his apprentice Francie (Jay Baruchel), the well-connected Paddy Kenneth Walsh, expert forger Guy (Chris Diamantopoulos), and idea man Nicky by his side, Crunch begins preparations for the job he'll be remembered for. The heist hits the skids, however, when untrustworthy Nicky resorts to his old tricks. But this time Crunch is ready, and as their partnership dissolves he prepares to pull out his ace in the hole. Terence Stamp and Katheryn Winnick co-star.
