This double CD package contains an outstanding sample of swingin' tunes by the Benny Goodman Big Band from 1939 thru 1952. The arrangements and performances are a pleasure, and they demonstrate why Benny's band was a favorite of the times. Great instrumental and vocal performances from a legendary big band!
The two vinyl albums came out in the early 50s on Columbia; I have had the Henderson album since, but never owned the Sauter although the songs and arrangements of the Sauter I had heard, I remembered very clearly. Especially the marvelous track of Love Walked In. This re-issue CD is GREAT. This is Benny Goodman at his best with wonderful sound. This is Goodman as probably few have heard or remember, truly great orchestral arrangements a la Sauter and many of the Henderson ones as well.
