Description by OLDIES.com:
Although clearly intended to warn the public about black market tire smuggling, Rubber Racketeers holds it own as a saga of mobsters versus an irate public. Wishing to cash in on the Valentino craze then sweeping Hollywood, studio heads transformed Jacob Krantz into Ricardo Cortez. He appeared in a number of films most notably Pony Express (1924), Torrent (1926), The Maltese Falcon (1931) and The Case Of The Black Cat (1936) before leaving Tinseltown for a successful career on Wall Street.

Although it sounds like the story of gangsters cornering the prophylactic market in a small college town, this is the tale of a forgotten evil: the "bootlegging" of rubber tires during WWII. With the severe rubber shortage, tires became a rare and expensive commodity and gangsters moved right in. While this film is no lost classic, it is fast paced and entertaining and serves a purpose to remind us that once there was such a shortage and that, as always, criminals took advantage of it. One of the nicest surpasses was seeing a VERY young Alan Hale, Jr. as one of the featured cast!
