Entertainment Reviews:
3 stars out of 5 -- As civil liberties get increasingly squeezed in the Trump era, THE PUBLIC takes on a compelling sense of urgency.
Rolling Stone
Rating: 3/5 --
It's hard to play a good man doing the right thing. Saints are dramatically dull, but Estevez gets away with it here.

Rating: 4.5/5 --
There is something decidedly old-fashioned about the storytelling in The Public, but maybe there's truth to the idea that we need to understand and appreciate the past if we're ever going to be able to move forward together.

The problem is, there's only just enough story to go round. You can hear the creak as both characters and subplots get jacked up out of proportion.

THE PUBLIC is professionally made, eventful and entertaining...
Variety
Rating: 3/5 --
Writer-director-star Emilio Estevez turns a library occupied by homeless citizens as ground zero for our under-fire democracy. Bravo!

Rolling Stone
It's a beautifully shot and directed film that openly wears its heart on its sleeve as an ode to one of the last surviving bastions of free information and public space - the public library.

Product Description:
Emilio Estevez directs and stars as Stuart, a librarian who helps a group of local homeless people take refuge from a brutal winter night by staging a sit-in at the free public library. As Stuart and his co-worker Myra (Jena Malone) work to get these "patrons," led by Jackson (Michael K. Williams), situated, the library's security team calls the police. A misunderstanding combined with the eagerness of a politician (Christian Slater) and a TV reporter (Gabrielle Union) to advance their own agendas leads to their noble act being confused for a hostage situation.
