Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 4/5 --
I'd rather rot in a New Orleans jail than watch it again. And yet its epiphanies are outrageously sharp, it is beautifully shot by cinematographer Peter Zeitlinger and the ending is a joy.
London Evening Standard
Rating: 2/5 --
[A better grade] strictly on the merit of Nic Cage going so crazy...

Medium Popcorn
As Cage's Lieutenant Terence McDonagh roams the Katrina-ravaged Big Easy, Herzog doesn't so much direct him as hit his detonator.
Rolling Stone
[T]his BAD LIEUTENANT is its own special fever-swamp of a movie, an anarchist film noir that seems, at times, almost as unhinged as its protagonist.
New York Times
4 stars out of 4 -- No one is better at this kind of performance than Nicolas Cage....He and Herzog were born to work together.
Chicago Sun-Times
[The film was] directed by Werner Herzog, a filmmaker and documentarian with a gleeful affinity for the aberrant....Rather than a conventional remake, it's a whole new take on the 1992 cult classic BAD LIEUTENANT...
Wall Street Journal
Rating: 2.5/4 --
Is redemption possible for this bad lieutenant? At one point, he orders that a dead man be shot again because "his soul is still dancing." If you find God in that line, then welcome to your movie heaven.

Product Description:
Abel Ferrara's cult crime drama BAD LIEUTENANT is given a sister film with this Werner Herzog-helmed production that takes its inspiration from the original, but focuses on new characters and plotlines. Nicolas Cage steps into Harvey Keitel's mold of a corrupt and drug-addled police officer, with the scummy setting moving from New York City to New Orleans. Eva Mendes, Val Kilmer, and Xzibit co-star in the Nu Image/Millennium Films picture.
