Product Description:

Soundtrack to a 2014 PBS documentary mini-series that explores the events of the Civil War from the perspective of some of the lesser battles that took place, like those in Atlanta, Shiloh & locations that at the time were referred to as "the West." It also touches upon the 1864 election (where Lincoln was campaigning for President) and the many people that helped to shape our great nation through their actions and words. This soundtrack features the talents of Grammy nominated multi-instrumentalist & composer Peter Kater & musician Bobby Horton, who is seeped in a love for jazz, folk and gospel music of the South. The music is patriotic and stately, juxtaposing somber incidental pieces with percussion heavy military-themed pieces, homespun banjo/harmonica tunes and several vocal pieces incorporating the uplifting voices of the Spirituals Project Choir. Apart from the film, the soundtrack does a wonderful job in immersing you in the drama and elegance of 19th century America.
