TOMATOMETER
[A] transfixing miniature that evokes the eponymous midcentury geopolitical freeze with all the intricate, delicate decay of the Polish auteur’s Oscar-winning IDA.
Variety

The movie packs more raw emotion into its slender 85-minute running time than many good and far lengthier films do.

[B]ittersweet and unbearably lovely....Achingly romantic but also wryly realistic about the destructive power of eros, the drama spans a decade and a bit from the late 1940s to the early 1960s.
Hollywood Reporter
May 10, 2018
[T]he movie has been built for maximum seduction. It has just enough politics to give it heft, striking black-and-white images and an in-the-mood-for-love ambiguity that suggests great mysteries are in store for those who watch and wait.
New York Times

Pawlikowski’s use of grainy, tonally muted cinematography and handheld camerawork in the Poland sequences, evoking documentary, beautifully captures the drabness of the 1950s era.

4.5 stars out of 5 -- [T]here’s enough sizzling carnality in COLD WAR to the singe the screen.
Rolling Stone

[A] haunted romantic epic in miniature, like a novel written with the careful, precise economy of a short story.
