Description by OLDIES.com:

The Green Devils were the paratrooper arm of the Luftwaffe. This program deals with their evolution, from their formation in 1933 to their important role in the invasion of the west in 1940 and in particular that of Crete in 1941.

Product Description:

This documentary traces the evolution of the German Army's use of airborne troops, or Fallschirmjäger, during WWII. Though the tactic of dropping soldiers into enemy territory was not necessarily a new one, the Germans took it to new heights, managing to win battles in which they were hugely outnumbered through the element of surprise. The paratrooper arm of the Luftwaffe was indeed an essential part of the German offensive, and this program details its evolution from 1933, to its enormous victory on the island of Crete in 1941. Known as Operation Mercury, this battle was the first operation conducted entirely by air, and though that mission was eventually successful, large-scale airborne operations would not be used in this way again, as the German Army eventually lost its air superiority.
